On the use of Satellite Images for City (and Community) Sensing
Remote sensing is an almost 50-year old technology that relies on images acquired from airborne/satellite borne sensors. Several kinds of sensors exist showing multiple/complementary characteristics that evolve rapidly over time as technology does. Accordingly, remote sensing allows to face multiple applications in the field of environmental monitoring from multiple perspectives. The seminar introduces remote sensing and its possible applications. Here we focus on City and Community Sensing by analyzing urban areas and neighborhoods. During the seminar attention will be devoted to methods for monitoring the evolution of environmental phenomena over time by means of multitemporal remote sensing image analysis.
